District 6840’s Ambassadorial Scholarship Recipients for 2010 are Jessica Cofield and Kimberly Dernovserk. Both women are bright, well spoken, and understand the Ideals of Rotary. They are both committed to community service and will represent the District well. Jessica Cofield is from Wiggins MS where she attended Stone High School and now is a student at William Carey University. She is presently employed by the City of Hattiesburg as an Asst. in Public Relations. She will fulfill her obligations as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar at a University in England, Ireland or Scotland. She is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Petal. She was the student Government President in 2009-2010 and is President and CEO of The Cofield Factor, LLC, an organization used to combat bullying in schools and communities. Jessica has played Intramural Flag Football, Intramural Basketball and likes to swim, lobster-dive, cave-tubing, zip-lining and writing. Kimberly Dernovsek is from Slidell, LA where she attended Slidell High School. She is now attending school in Baton Rouge at LSU. She has been at the DEQ, LaHouse and is presently employed at the Mi Salon and Spa. Kim will attend a University in South Korea, Spain or Argentina. She is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Slidell Northshore. In high school, she was the President of the National Honors Society. She now sits as Associate Chair on the Students Activities Board at LSU. She is involved with the Habitat for Humanity, Students in Free Enterprise, and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. |
District 6840 is very proud of its Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA). This program is for incoming high school seniors only. Children and grandchildren of Rotarians are eligible to participate. .
